Appearance

It is an epiphytic shrub whose main characteristics are its conspicuous and abundant flowers, extremely attractive, since its petals are scarlet and contrast with the intense yellow of its anthers.The flowers of this species are solitary with oblong anthers, 7–8 mm long and 4–5 mm thick, yellow in color, the floral bracts are wide with bright red petals and prominent connective anthers. . Flowers have been observed at different times of the year.

Distribution

Humid mountainous regions of Cantral and South America. The geographical distribution of B. scarlatina is localized and uncommon (rare).

Habitat

Most of the individuals are found in the lowlands of the Caribbean or the slopes of Nicaragua and Costa Rica in the rainy and cloud forest, at an altitude of 0-1450 meters above sea level.
