''Scymnus loewii'', or Loew's lady beetle, is a species of dusky lady beetle in the family Coccinellidae. It is found in Central America, North America, and Oceania.
Loew's Lady Beetle (Scymnus loewii) On my Winged Sumac tree (Rhus copallinum) at a mixed forest edge. It was a fast runner (and not interested in photos), so I'm so glad I got a couple of shots! This seems to be a pretty rare find--and definitely a first time for me seeing anything like it before.

Naming

Patronym for Friedrich Hermann Loew (1807-1879), a German entomologist who was the first specialist to work on the Diptera of the US, though he never crossed the Atlantic.

Across s. US / Mex. to S. Amer. Introduced to New Zealand and Hawaii.
