Polydrusus (Scythodrusus) inustus Germar, 1824 is a weevil (Curculionidae) in the large genus Polydrusus of the subfamily Entiminae, containing many of the tribes of short nosed weevils.

Appearance

This relatively small (3,5-5,5mm), usually brownish Polydrusus has bluntly rounded shoulders (no wings, hence flightless) carries long dark brushy hairs on the elytra between the long yellowish-brown scales.

Distribution

Polydrusus inustus originates from eastern Europe, Russia and Asia but recently has been extending its range to areas in western Europe (Poland 1950´s, South of France 1972, Alsace 1996 etc), helped by human transports of plant material and parthogenetically reproducing females.

Food

The beetles feed very polyphagous on a large number of deciduous trees, the larvae probably feed on the roots of these.
