Prostheceraeus giesbrechtii

Pink flatworm P. giesbrechtii is a species of euryleptid flatworm that is native to the Mediterranean Sea and the Eastern Atlantic (Wood, 2015).

Appearance

Pink flatworm Prostheceraeus giesbrechtii has purple and white stripped coloration. It grows to around 2 cm in length. There are pink and white longitudinal stripes on the body. In other specimens there is a yellowish longitudinal stripe in the middle of the body and the background is dark instead of purple. On each side of this central strip, there are five thin white lines.

Distribution

Mediterranean: Spain, Italy and France.

Habitat

Found in rocky and coral areas with depths of 15 to 20 meters. Present in different habitats such as caves and rocky areas with darkness sandy conditions.

Reproduction

Members of the class Turbellaria are mostly hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Eggs directly hatch into miniature adults.

Food

It feeds on other invertebrates.
