Appearance

The adults grow up to 8–11 millimetres long. These quite large sawflies have a lemon-yellow abdomen with black markings. This species is very similar to "Tenthredo arcuata" and "Tenthredo brevicornis".
A Common Sawfly This, I believe is Tenthredo notha or brevicornis - very difficult to separate out of 4 species including schaefferi or arcuata, however I think I've got it down to 2 - I'm awaiting advice confirmation from the UK biological records site. Distribution

This species is mainly present in British Isles, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Poland, Russia, Ukraine and Greece.

Behavior

They can be encountered from June through September feeding on small insects and on nectar and pollen of flowers.

The larvae mainly feed on clover, they overwinter as eonymph, pupating and emerging the following Spring.
