Tansy aphid

Macrosiphoniella tanacetaria

Macrosiphoniella tanacetaria is a very common species of Aphid on Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare).
Macrosiphoniella tanacetaria - Pink I'm pretty sure I have the right species name here and it is said to be greenish or pinkish, but I find mostly images of green specimen or half green/pink but only very limited amounts of such clearly all pink individuals or groups. Will try to check with a specialist, or ID one under the microscope to be sure ... Appearance

Apterae are around 3.2-4.1mm in length and wax powdered green or pinkish-brown. The green version seems to be the more common variant. The alate females look much the same as the apterae, apart from carrying wings of course. Antennae, legs, siphunculi and cauda are all black.

Distribution

This is basically a European species, but BugGuide carries some photos shot in Minnesota on the host plant, considered an invasive pest in the US.
