Paederus littorarius

Paederus littorarius

Paederus littorarius is a rove beetle in the family Staphylinidae.
Rove beetle - Paederus littorarius TL: ~ 5 mm. I spotted a couple of these beetles along the edge of a pond. They were so fast that this was the best shot I could get.

They produce a defensive chemical (pederin), which repels predators and can blister human skin.
