Orchestes rusci (previously Rhynchaenus rusci) is a small (2.2-2.6mm) "jumping weevil" of the tribe Rhamphini in the subfamily Curculioninae, living on Birch over large parts of Europe, and in the east up to Siberia.

Behavior

The eggs are deposited on the edge of a leaf and the larva starts mining along the side of the leaf at first, later moving to the center and in the end cutting out a round hole in the leave and dropping to the ground in this, later creating a cocoon of the circular patch of leaf material and overwintering in it.
