Madagascar Sundew

Drosera madagascariensis

''Drosera madagascariensis'' is a carnivorous plant of the sundew genus. It was described in 1824 by A. P. de Candolle and is native to Africa.
Drosera madagascariensis, Heesch, Netherlands This is the 2nd out of the 3 Drosera species I purchased. To the naked eye, it's a tiny plant that is very flat, it barely rises above the edge of the pot. I hope it grows higher in the future.

The flatness of this plant posed a challenge as I wanted to stack it, which is normally done horizontally. Luckily, the rail I use (WeMacro) can be put on a tripod, so this way I was able to do a top-down stack. Drosera madagascariensis,Extreme Macro,WeMacro

Appearance

''Drosera madagascariensis'' is a robust stem-forming species with a clearly visible stem, which stands upright in the case of younger plants and either uses its leaves to anchor itself to surrounding vegetation as it matures or bends over and forms a scrambling stem.
Drosera madagascariensis - leaf, Heesch, Netherlands 5:1 macro stack of one of the leafs of this sundew species. I'm not entirely happy with it in particular because the specimen doesn't look good. The plant was a bit weak, probably because of transport. I may have to redo this one when it's in better shape. Drosera madagascariensis,Extreme Macro

Distribution

''Drosera madagascariensis'' is native to the tropical Africa as far south as South Africa and east to the island of Madagascar. It is found in swamps and sphagnum bogs.
