Common net-casting spider

Deinopis ravida

The presence of a pair of very large eyes that face forwards and long, slender legs that at rest are aligned in pairs to form an X are features of this and other Deinopis species. It is not too difficult to find a specimen with the characteristic net attached to its legs. Alternatively, abandoned nets are sometimes found where deinopids are common.
Deinopis subrufa dorsal with prey Update January 21, 2020....I initially misidentified this net-caster as Deinopis ravida due to the abdomen shape. (Although similar, D. ravida and D. subrufa are recognised as separate species). She's been hanging around on a bush by my front door for several weeks. I'd noticed a male some time ago and then, much to my joy and excitement, I found her tucked in to a corner of my porch with an egg sac a week ago, so I wonder if this abdomen may have been full of eggs when I took this shot.
