Naming

Nematus (Pteronidea) miliaris has long been known as Nematus capreae (which is aptly named after the preferred host of the wasp), but this proved to be a junior synonym of N. miliaris.
Some authors would have the species in the genus Euura (as Euura miliaris), but many leading database still present it as Nematus and/or as Pteronidea (either as a subgenus or as a valid genus in its own right)

Reproduction

The eggs are deposited in a double row of crescent shaped pockets that the female Sawfly cuts into a thin twig, or rarely along the central nerve of a leaf.

Food

Nematus miliaris develops oligophagous on Salicaceae. Hosts cited are various spp. of Salix (often caprea, but also Salix alba, aurita, cinerea, “x fragilis” or silesiaca), as well as Populus tremula.
