Appearance

This species form thin, hard, highly calcified encrustations. Growth follows the contours of the substrate and resembles a painted coating. Outer margins may not be tightly attached. Dark red to burgundy in color.

Distribution

Atlantic, Caribbean, Mediterranean.

Habitat

Prefer shaded areas, attached to hard substrates.
