
Appearance
Head and antennae orange. Body black. Wings dark brown with purplish reflections; forewing somewhat darker.
Naming
Henri Louis Frédéric de Saussure (1829-1905) - scion of a very scholarly family - in 1859 named this Orange Head for a real scientific entomologist whom he greatly admired and to whom he thanks its identification: the Dutchman Samuel Constant Snellen van Vollenhoven (1816-1880).References:
