Elegant Mabuya, Madagascar skink in Kirindi Found on the forest floor of Kirindi, a relatively common skink in Madagascar, the Elegant mabuya. I had to capture it in a hurry as they are very quick, so the focus is a little off. Elegant Mabuya,Kirindy Reserve,Madagascar,Trachylepis elegans

Habitat

This ubiquitous lizard inhabits arid and humid habitats, including grasslands, forest, cultivated landscapes and rocky areas (Glaw and Vences 2007). Near Andringitra it was observed around villages (Raxworthy and Nussbaum 1996). At Daraina it inhabits dry forest, littoral forest and dry-humid transition forest (Rakotondravony 2006). In the lower Onilahy valley it has been collected in spiny forest (D'Cruze et al. 2009). It is a ground-dwelling species that rarely climbs (Ramanamanjato et al. 1999). Its diet has been reported to consist mainly of termites, but also includes beetles, spiders and ants (Peveling et al. 2003).
