Solenocaulon akalyx is a soft coral species from the Anthothelidae family. The coral species comes from the genus Solenocaulon. Solenocaulon akalyx was first described scientifically in 1896 by Germanos.

Appearance

The fans are as wide as high, up to 50 cm tall. The main stem is solid in the basal part, gutter-like or tubular in the upper parts. The coenenchyme is white, red-brown, or bright red. the tentacles are white. The sclerites of the outer layer of coenenchyme are small spindles, colourless or pale yellow; those of the medulla are white.

Distribution

Indo and West Pacific.

Habitat

Lagoon, channels, walls of passes, areas where tidal currents are strong. In depths of 20-40 m.
