Naming
Described as a new species in 1837, in 2009 it was discovered in the Atlantic rainforest of Brazil.The specific name, "fuscoauratus", comes from the Latin roots "fuscus" meaning "dark" and "auratus" meaning "golden". The name is attributed to the lizard's morphologic characteristics in that its color is dark gold.
