Lygdamis splendidus

Size is to 4 cm.
This worm is a Sabellariid sand-burrowing tube worm.The tube protects the worm from predators, because all polychaetes are soft-bodied. It has twin spike-like feeding appendages with numerous filaments extending from the buried tube. It can quickly retract if disturbed.

Lygdamis is a nocturnal filter feeder. The food of this worm consists of planktonic microorganism.
The tube is built by active capture of coarse sand, shell fragments or other suitable particles , which are glued together to form elongate cylindrical tubes.

Distribution: circumtropical.
