The silvery woolly monkey , also known as Poeppig's woolly monkey, is a woolly monkey species from South America. Named after the German zoologist Eduard Friedrich Poeppig.
Silvery Woolly Monkey (Lagothrix poeppigii) at Monkey Island rehabilitation facility, Amazon River, September 2018 The Silvery Woolly Monkey (Lagothrix poeppigii) is one of four similar species that range primarily in South America’s Amazon Basin. Living in groups of up to 45 individuals, these large primates most often occur in mature upland tropical forest. Each group is controlled by an alpha male. When foraging, they split into small cells consisting on 2-6 monkeys. They are herbivores and frugivores but also consume a variety of nuts and invertebrates. Silvery Woolley Monkeys are preyed upon by large cats, Harpy Eagles, and especially humans, who seek them as food and for the pet trade. Lagothrix poeppigii,Silvery woolly monkey
