Ambiguous moth

Lascoria ambigualis

The ambiguous moth is a species of litter moth of the family Erebidae. It is found from Wisconsin to Maine, south to Florida and Texas.
Ambiguous Moth - Lascoria ambigualis Total length: about 12 mm.  Forewings were violet gray with straight AM line that was edged in black. Median and postmedian lines were scalloped.  This moth was a male, which is indicated by the black spots in the notch midway along the outer margin.  Reniform spots are oblique, white crescents, which were mostly rubbed off on this moth.

Appearance

The wingspan is 21–25 mm. Adults are on wing from April to September. There are two generations in Connecticut and multiple broods in Missouri. The larvae feed on ''Chrysanthemum'' species, including aster, blackberry and verbesina. Larvae have also been reared on dead leaves.
