
Ambiguous Moth - Lascoria ambigualis
Total length: about 12 mm. Forewings were violet gray with straight AM line that was edged in black. Median and postmedian lines were scalloped. This moth was a male, which is indicated by the black spots in the notch midway along the outer margin. Reniform spots are oblique, white crescents, which were mostly rubbed off on this moth.
Attracted to a moth light in a rural area.

The ambiguous moth is a species of litter moth of the family Erebidae. It is found from Wisconsin to Maine, south to Florida and Texas.

So you can't call it the Coca Cola beetle :) Also, the specimens were usually pure black tiny beetles, nothing memorable. Posted 7 years ago
