Appearance

In his original description Heylaerts start off by noting that the species, in general aspect, looks very similar to Syntomis diaphana (current valid name Caeneressa diaphana), but it is much smaller. There are also some slight differences in the pattern of hyaline patches in the wings and the pattern on the abdomen.
Ceryx claremontii (s.l.?) Wasp Moth (Syntomini), according to Alberto Zilli from the NHM a very good match for Ceryx claremontii, but the species may be in need of a revision.

Naming

It was described by Heylaerts in 1890 as Syntomis claremontii from Preanger, Java, Indonesia. Heylaerts dedicated the species to "Claremont House" (the place where the type series was found) and in later publications the name was hence gramatically corrected to claremonti, but the current rules of the ICZN dictate that the original spelling as claremontii be retained.
