Lamarck's Carinaria

Carinaria lamarckii

''Carinaria lamarckii'' is a species of sea gastropod, a holoplanktonic marine gastropod mollusk in the family Carinariidae.
A heteropod mollusk (Carinaria lamarcki) trawled from between 200 meters depth and the surface in the Gulf of Mexico. This heteropod is a mollusk and is distantly related to clams and squid. In fact, Carinaria lamarcki is a free swimming marine snail with a small shell. The shell contains and protects most of its digestive tract, the gonads, the heart, and the gills. It is predatory and consumed a number of organisms that it was trawled with while in the lab. This individual was collected between 200 meters depth and the surface in the Gulf of Mexico, 2015. This species photographed during the DEEPEND project (www.deependconsortium.org).
