The Pacific swallow is a small passerine bird in the swallow family. It breeds in tropical southern Asia and the islands of the south Pacific. It is resident apart from some local seasonal movements. This bird is associated with coasts, but is increasingly spreading to forested uplands. The hill swallow was formerly considered conspecific.
Pacific Swallows take a break We were on Tioman Island in Malaysia which is mostly famous for snorkeling, but these were very common swooping over the water as we prepared our snorkeling equipment. Sometimes they would land and just check us out allowing some pretty good views. Incidentally, Malaysia has the common European Barn Swallow as well but the have less red on the forehead nd have the very long, tails for which the name swallowtail refers.
