Wood Cricket

Nemobius sylvestris

The Wood Cricket (Nemobius sylvestris) is a relatively small (1cm) true cricket (Ensifera: Gryllidae) from Western and Central Europe and North Africa. Both males and females are flightless without hind wings and the elytra (fore wings) are very much reduced on the females and cover about half the body on the males where they mainly serve as stridulatory organs.
