Appearance
Even though it is the type species of the genus Eurygaster it is quite distinctive within the genus and if subgenera would be strictly defined it would probably only share the subgenus Eurygaster sensu stricto with the European Eurygaster austriaca and the Nearctic Eurygaster shoshone. The tylus is fully enclosed by the jugae at the apex (a character shared with austriaca) and it carries a clearly raised ridge over the midline of the scutellum (some other species have an unpunctured/smooth midline, but not raised). Additionally the surface of the scutellum is very rough and the habitus is much shorter wider than any of the other Eurygaster in its areal.
