
Distribution
They are distributed in the Balkans and Turkey. They live in damp valleys and damp areas close to the Mediterranean coasts. Lovers of rich habitats from green woodlands, maquis, broad-leaved shrubs. Although it has a fairly wide distribution there has been a decrease in the distribution area of between 20-50% over the last 25 years. This equates to a population reduction of 20% in ten years.This species is restricted to southeastern Europe, with the main distribution focused on Albania, Greece and Turkey. Also recorded in Bulgaria. Very local in the Strumsko Valley (Kresna Gorge, Sandanski) and on the northern slopes of Belasitsa to Petrich. Recently established in the warmest river valleys of the Eastern Rhodopes (Beshkov 1995). The most widespread on the southern Black Sea coast.
