Great Angle-headed Dragon

Gonocephalus grandis

Gonocephalus grandis is the largest and most spectacular member of its genus. It is native to SE Asia. The adult males have large crests on their neck and back, and are green on top and blue-with-yellow-spots on the sides. Adult females are similarly colored but lack the large crests. Juveniles are shades of brown, black, and white.

Behavior

These arboreal lizards live in riparian habitats, and are quick to dive into water to escape. They are wary and fast moving by day, but like many other diurnal rainforest lizards at night they sleep in vegetation and are relatively easy to find and to approach.
