Two-spined Rainbow Skink

Carlia amax

A common, small skink with 4 fingers, 5 toes, and 2 strong keels on the dorsal scales. Olive brown, usually with small pale and/or dark spots, and a pale streak under the eye, which often extends through the ear to the forelimb. Top of head coppery, particularly on breeding males. Ranges from Northwest Queensland through northern Northern Territory to Kimberley, West Australia. Inhabits rock outcrops and scree slopes in dry to semi-arid regions. Forages in leaf litter at bases of trees and rocks.
