False Eros blue - Polyommatus eroides
Polyommatus eros subsp. eroides
I am very happy with this butterfly, one of our best blues, described as a new species for science from Bulgaria. Alas, now in Europe there is an opinion that this is only a subspecies of the alpine P. eros. This opinion, according to Zdravko Kolev, a leading researcher of butterflies in Bulgaria, MSc in ecological zoology and environmental sciences (University of Helsinki, Finland, 2008), is not very well-argued, so I leave the identification under that name.

Polyommatus erotides is a butterfly found in the East Palearctic that belongs to the blues family.
This taxon has been reclassified as a subspecies of the eros blue P. eros. It is found from the central Balkans and rarely in Slovakia and Poland. It is a local butterfly of higher elevations.
