1. Difficult to say. since you don't narrow down the location...Indonesia is very big...many islands :-)

        1. Thanks again for your interest in this ID.

A quick Google Search will show the distribution in Australia to South Australia :

          1. You know what i think Albert? I think you should leave it as you think it is and also leave alone mine, at least not to change species names without notifiying like you did here:
Clavelina coerulea or Rhopalaea fusca - very confusing online! Cabilao, Oct 7, 2012
Elegant solitary ascidian, cylindrical, small (3-5 cm). Colour can change, but it is usually a blue tone: from transparent sky to an opaque darker blue. When disturbed, tunicates draw up the incurrent and excurrent apertures, much like a drawstring around the rim of a bag. Tunicates, or "sea squirts" are common in all marine habitats, attaching themselves to virtually any fixed object on a coral reef. To feed, they constantly filter out bacteria and phytoplankton by passing a continuous stream of water through their body. The larger of the two openings is the mouth, or incurrent aperture, and the smaller is the excurrent aperture. The water stream is kept moving by the action of tiny cilia (hairs) that line the inside of the tunicate body. Waste products are also expelled through the excurrent aperture.
Habitat:
Rhopalaea spp. are common on back reef, reef front but mainly along the external reef. Indo-Pacific Clavelina coerulea,Geotagged,Philippines,Rhopalaea fusca, rhopalaea, sea squirt, tunicate

where I received a notification from JD that you have changed the species name to Rhopalaea fusca without asking me first if I agree. The fact is neither you nor I are experts for species identifications. We both do our bests and at times we may be wrong but I prefer not to touch your spottings or that you do not touch mine without first asking as I do not consider this correct in any social media that I can imagine. So please, feel free to name your species as best as you can and let me do the same with mine. And unless you do not have a very obvious picture accompanied by convincing facts that my ID in a picture is wrong please do not touch it. I can promise you I will do the same with yours. Moreover, if you are not able to also say something nice about my spottings once in a while then I beg you to just leave them alone. Thanks for your understanding!

            1. Also, if you have a species comment for different pictures, which anyways I would prefer that you leave alone as I say above, please do not spam my email folder with 12 messages in one day just because you do not agree. In other words, if you cannot say anything nice a bit more often keep your thoutghts for yourself and do as if my spottings do not exist, I will do the same with yours from now on. Live and let others live, all right? Posted 5 years ago
            2. I was in doubt to come in between this obvious dispute, but it hurts me to see two wonderful people clash so hard, so I will at least make an attempt to mediate.

Note that I will not pick sides, that isn't my goal. I love you both and have both of you in the highest regard. I also am 100% convinced that both of you act in good faith and have the best intentions, the dispute largely being about tone and methods, not intentions.

And, I recognize we live in drastic times, some of us are on the edge. I know I am, at least.

That said, some thoughts on process:

              - ID correction suggestions are a good thing and in almost all cases, are an act of help. However, tone and method matters. Guidance: for new identifications, no discussions are needed. For corrections/removals, it's common courtesy to comment and provide evidence so that we can all learn.

              - Direct messages are not recommended for this type of discussion. They are to exchange private information. ID discussions are not secret and are recommended to take place publicly, in the comment system. Direct messages can come across as more critical, plus I can't see them, so can't help in any case.

              - When two people make claims and evidence is not conclusive to settle on an ID, we agree to disagree. This should not be an emotional event, it should be business as usual.

              - Leaving each other posts alone is not the idea of JD. We should very much engage in each other posts including identifications, it's a community process. Yet with the proper tone, see above. Likewise, we should not do "revenge corrections" as seen above. I understand, this is a reaction to an action.

I'll end with a philosophical angle. This was bad, but forgiveness is around the corner. I've seen several life time breakups amidst friends and family, all starting from a dispute over a tiny thing. It's never worth it. Never. Life's too short.

We can take a step back, learn from this, and find forgiveness, even if you think you're in the right. Believe me it is what you want, the alternative is so much worse. The past is the past.

As I'm running out of healing phrases, how am I doing? Career switch to be a mentor, or no?
