Giant Crab-backed orb weaver at night in Madagascar Although it looks quite distinctive, I still haven't been able to identify this specie. Although it looks quite distinctive, I still haven't been able to identify this specie. It definitely is an orb weaver, and it has a crab-like back but an exact match I have not found yet. Help is much welcome!

    Now I know it is not a Caerostris darwini (you told us about it very recently in one of your shots):) Can you tell me something about their non-flash colour? The flash may have overexposed the spider areas of recognition, giving it a colour not matching its natural display. Posted 12 years ago

      I've only seen this one by flash light since it was at night. Although it brightens the colors a lot, I think there are points of recognition, such as the red-tipped legs en crab-like roundish body shell. Posted 12 years ago

    I believe it is of the same genus as Darwin's bark spider (Caerostris), but there is not much information online about them...Either way, it is a very cool specimen! Posted 11 years ago, modified 11 years ago
