We’re continuing our series highlighting some of the most fantastic body parts belonging to wildlife. Today, we are focusing on eyes! There are so many creatures with remarkable eyes that it was quite a struggle to choose which ones to feature today! #JungleDragon
Stalk-eyed flies (Family Diopsidae), as their name implies, have their eyes mounted on stalks. This unusual condition, called hypercephaly, is rare. It’s advantageous though, as it enhances stereoscopic vision. While both males and females have eyestalks, sexual dimorphism is a factor as males have longer eyestalks than females; also, females prefer to mate with the male(s) having the longest eyestalks. However, eyestalks are an aerodynamic handicap. {Spotted in Oman by Abo Elias}#stalkeyedflies #Diopsidae
