Gephyromantis sp., Palmarium, Madagascar Found on the forest floor, by day. Very tiny frog, unsure if a juvenile. I estimate it at about 1-1.5cm. Besides banded patterns on all legs, another characteristic is the round nose.<br />

  1. Lack of webbing and small toe pads make this seem more likely to be a terrestrial frog, whereas Boophis are typically arboreal (though I'm sure there are exceptions). The bumpy surface is also an important clue to identity, though there are a lot of bumpy-surfaced frogs in Madagascar. My guess would be Gephyromantis sp, perhaps G. asper or a similar species. 1. Thanks so much, John! Updated the titles and descriptions. Shows again help is no luxury in my case :) Posted 5 years ago
  2. Did you see any larger forest-floor frogs at Palmarium? Posted 5 years ago
    1. None at all. In part perhaps due to the season (winter). But also, we didn't try very hard nor did we have specialist guides to help with this. I'm sure they must be there though, the reserve has a decent size. Posted 5 years ago
