Found infesting tea tree plants

  1. Ernst, this definitely looks like Prociphilus tessellatus visually, but still want to do a quick location check. From a casual search, it seems mostly reported from NA and Europe, hardly ever Asia or Australia. Do you have a record or reference of this species in Australia? Posted 5 years ago
    1. Ferdy, I can’t find my original source of the info on Prociphilus tessellatus. What I did find is that this species affects alder trees in Europe and Asian areas. Also I found a note in Atlas of living Australia that alder trees have been recorded in several Australian states including NSW.
So it could be possible that the mealy bug came to Australia with alder trees. But if you feel that this is to far fetched, maybe better leave it until some one can help.
