Heterobasidion (?) Upper surface of conk on White Spruce (Picea glauca). Larger conks hear the base of the tree but many smaller ones occur further up the trunk sprouting from branch stubs and cracks in the bark. The fungus first emerged while the tree was still alive.<br />
