Weeping Milk Cap - Lactifluus volemus Attractive, brownish orange mushrooms. The velvety caps had inrolled margins and were mostly flat with central depressions. the gills were attached to the stem and were creamy white, but discolored brown when injured. The stipe was colored similar to the cap, but more pale.<br />

They leak copious amounts of white milk, which stains everything it touches brown. This species also has a fishy odor, which intensifies after the mushrooms have been picked.<br />

"Lactifluus volemus", formerly known as "Lactarius volemus", is a species of fungus in the family Russulaceae. It is widely distributed in the northern hemisphere, in temperate regions of Europe, North America and Asia as well as some subtropical and tropical regions of Central America and Asia.
