Bearded lichen (usnea sp.), Andasibe, Madagascar

Midday arrival at an Andasibe camp site that is typically used for local researchers. Exploring the area on a little solo macro tour, I found a cluster of trees all having these weird branched lichen on them.

i am not sure. I dont know what usneas have been documented in Madagasgar. I looked at the surrounding contenents and there are 24 species of usneas. none of them were subgracilis. this would require keying of the species to determine. there is no way to tell from your photo because you cannot see closely the details. additionally, it may also need chem test to determine.   I understand that it does look like that, but its the same tree, just different angles. Technically, it is of course possible there's multiple species on the same tree. Posted 5 years ago
