Acalyptris sp. - Leaf Mines on Kudzu (Pueraria montana) I found these leaf mines at the tail end of our difficult hike on Sunday. I was really out of it, so I didn&#039;t really think twice about seeing them. I thought they were cool, so I snapped a shot before I was rescued by the air conditioner in my car. Kudzu (some really nasty, invasive stuff) was taking over the roadsides near the nature preserve (a common sight in the South really), but I happened to see these cool mines when walking past. <br />

To my surprise, Charley Eiseman wants me to find more of these mines and gather samples (even dead larvae) for further study. There are no mines known for this host in North America, so we definitely need to look further into this! He is convinced of the genus by the frass pattern (holy crap, that is skill!), but he thinks that this may be a native legume feeder trying out a different host. 1. "The vine that ate the south" - powerful quote right there. Posted 5 years ago
    1. In some areas, you can really see the truth in that quote!

It is too bad that people won't make good use of the edible leaves!

      1. Whoops, missed the part of them being edible. So the south can eat "back" the vine :) Posted 5 years ago
