Fowler's or American Toad?

At the disturbed edge of a dense mixed forest. Seems to be enjoying the dry, dusty conditions.

I am having a hard time figuring out if this is a Fowler's or American toad! Any help is much appreciated!

  1. Fowler's? I see a spot with 3-4 warts in it. Also, tibial warts don't appear enlarged. But, the parotid glands don't look like they touch the cranial crest behind the eye?? So, hmm. Did you see the underside? The ventral surface of Fowler's is unspotted, while AT is highly spotted. Posted 5 years ago
    1. I was thinking that too (due to the 3+ warts), but I've heard that the hybrids can have a varying numbers of warts? It is so confusing sometimes!
      I did not see the underside.

        1. Jason named it Todd. This is a little one. There is a large toad that is out at night that he named Tad. :P LOL! They are his buddies. Posted 5 years ago
