  1. Semi-educated guess: maybe Xylaria hypoxylon? I've seen photos of it looking wet, black, and crusty like this...Then again, there could be similar look-alikes... Posted 6 years ago
    1. That's interesting, perhaps that other one I posted earlier is even the same species considering its variable appearance. Given the dry season, it would make sense for it to look a bit past its peak.

      Xylaria hypoxylon does seem to occur in Southern Africa, so seems Madagascar is possible.

  2. Very pretty! I'd say it is safest to leave at genus level on this one. I'm guessing you would need some microscopy here. Posted 6 years ago
