Crane Flies - Tipulidae I was sitting on the ground when I noticed all these crane flies that were stuck in a spider's web...and, more kept flying into it. I'm not sure exactly what was going on, but my hypothesis is that these crane flies might have all just had a mass emergence from a nearby stump, were swarming to mate, and unfortunately, got stuck in this web.
1. WOW! How strange! And what a lucky spider! Posted 6 years ago
    1. I know! It was weird and my head was so close to it as I was checking out a tiny parrot mushroom next to it. I tweaked a bit at first, but then came to my senses and realized it was indeed quite cool! And, yeah, I imagine an overwhelmed and portly spider as a result of this swarm! Posted 6 years ago

        1. Your wish is my command:
Parrot Toadstool - Gliophorus psittacinus As much as the intense sliminess of these mushrooms makes me squirm and practically gag, I still love them and think they are awesome. They are so hard to hold though - constantly slipping out of your fingers like a fish.

Caps were slimy, lined, and ranged in color from green to orange/yellow. The gills were orange, nearly distant, and had frequent short gills. The stipes were slimy and colors were green to yellow.
Habitat: Growing on the ground in a mixed forest - under eastern hemlock.
