A Leafy Hornmouth! A low tide find. This gastropod feeds on barnacles and bivalves and is found intertidally to depths of 60 metres. The other common names are Leafy or Thorn Purpura with its range being from Alaska to San Pedro, California.<br />

Ceratostoma foliatum, a collage. The top two photos show the rocksnail likely feeding on some barnacles. These two photos were taken a day apart... it didn’t move much. The lower two photos show an uninhabited shell to show the three wing-like projections that are said to allow the snail to land properly if dislodged from a rock by a predator while underwater. The large “tooth” can be seen projecting from the aperture. <br />
