  1. I may be wayyy off base, but the fringed wings and discal spots make me think of either Scopula sp. or Idaea sp. Posted 6 years ago
    1. Hmmm, looking at reference photos of both genuses I'd say this one was smaller. Sorry, I'm doing a poor job of describing the size. I estimate it from memory and also using the zoom level of the cloth itself :)

To me, size is more similar to a pug moth.

      1. I wasn't thinking these were necessarily correct IDs. I was just lazily stating the interesting similarities :P Sorry, I'm doing a poor job of being awake right now! LOL Posted 6 years ago
        1. No worries, Lisa, any and all help is welcome. In fact, for the Madagascar set it will be needed more than ever, so don't hold back your thoughts. Posted 6 years ago
          1. I'm not sure either, but it does look pug-like. Or, maybe like a false pug (Sigela sp.), but I don't think those would have the right distribution. Posted 6 years ago
            1. Thanks for chipping in! Posted 6 years ago
              1. You're welcome...sorry I don't have more time to delve into these right now. Posted 6 years ago
                1. No need to apologize for that, you don't owe me any time :) Posted 6 years ago
                  1. Phew, I guess I'm off the hook then... Posted 6 years ago
  2. Check out this subfamily. Some of the Idaea and Scopula specimens/photos aren't THAT far off?

    1. Definitely not far off, some even very close:

Yet if you study details, not a full match either. Very tricky situation as both genuses are very large. You're definitely on to something!
