Female Dobsonfly On a hot day, I saw this amazing adult female Dobsonfly opening and closing her membranous, patterned wings whilst on a wall. As she circled around, it reminded me of a flamenco dancer, swirling her skirts. <br />

Dobson larvae are aquatic and adults live for just a short time, up to 10 days. The adult stage is all about finding a mate and if successful, females such as this will lay their eggs close to water before they die. <br />
