  2. Hi Franny, this is a "Acorn weevil" in a broad sense (genus Curculio), but certainly not Curculio glandium (an European species). The key in the old monograph of the genus Curculio in the New World (Gibson 1969) is supposedly hard to use/interpret. But there is an illustrated key to the species east of the Mississippi river:

    It would require some other viewing angles on the weevil, to get anywhere with that key, so if you have more images available you could try yourself.
    For now I'm removing the ID as Curculio glandium, as that one is certainly incorrect.
