Vireo Chick - Vireo sp. I first found this nest a few weeks ago before the eggs had hatched. I went back to check on the eggs this morning and found baby chicks! I don&#039;t know how many there are, but this one was sleeping near the edge and easy to photograph. I heard more in the nest, but couldn&#039;t see them from this angle. Check out those cute tufts of fluff on its head &lt;3<br />

  1. Cool find! I wonder if it can already see, its eyes seem to still be in development? Posted 6 years ago
    1. Thanks! I'll go back and check on them in about a week. I'm guessing these birds hatched only a couple days ago since their eyes are still closed.

I don't think they can see until their eyes open. This one's eyes were completely closed. Not sure about its siblings since I couldn't see them. But, this chick seemed less active than the others because I could hear the others chirping away, yet this one just bobbed its head a bit and went back to resting. Hopefully it will be okay.

I did wonder if they could sense light before their eyes open, or just movement. Either way, I was careful to not let it get blasted by my flash when I took the shot.
