Virbia sp. larva

Possibly the larva of Virbia lamae. Found crawling rapidly across a ditch bank road in a fen (peatland). Very active, it tried to bury itself under plant debris when I was catching it.

  That is a possibility I considered but it is scarcely known at this latitude. Unfortunately, there are no good photos of the larvae of either species that I have seen so far that would help to sort this out. Posted 6 years ago

        Gotcha. Resizing for bugguide usually leads me to delay posting there. They need to increase their size limits, imo. Posted 6 years ago

        True. And if the original photo isn't super high-rez the end product gets grainy. Also, I just saw this on BG and may this caterpillar is really Apantesis virgo.
