      1. I don't know about this exact specie, but many opuntia's have very small hairlike spines/prickles (called glochids). These detach from the plant easily and stick in your skin where after a while they start to irritate.
        You can get them out with a pincer or adhesive tape, but it's always a bit cumbersome.
