Corizus hyoscyami nigridorsum - Abdomen through wings Another species with a long history of &quot;discussion&quot;, switching back and forth between separate species, subspecies status or even &quot;just a colour variant&quot;. Fauna Europaea currently lists it as Corizus hyoscyami ssp. nigridorsum.<br />
The name nigridorsum refers to the all black top of the abdomen (under the wings) versus ab. segs. III &amp; IV being red on Corizus hyoscyami s.str.  That said the pattern on the wings is also quite distinct. Compare to this image of a typical Corizus hyoscyami:<br />

The discussion on the species status arises from intermediate forms being frequently found in southern Europe, such as shown on the images previously uploaded by Rui Felix, such as this one:<br />
