Andean Coot - adult feeding youngster, La Cocha, Colombia A yellow variety adult of the Andean Coot. I imagined this being the adult handing over some giant nest building material as a way to say: time to earn your keep! In reality, it&#039;s an optical illusion. Zoom in closer and you&#039;ll see the adult feeding fish to the the fluffy youngster. Here&#039;s a red variety adult:<br />

It can be confused with the smaller American Coot. Main way to tell them apart is that the Andean Coot does not have a ring on the bill. Here&#039;s an example of an American Coot showing the ring:<br />

The Andean coot , also known as the slate-colored coot, is a species of bird in subfamily Rallinae of family Rallidae, the rails, gallinules, and coots. It is found in Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru.
